Medium introduces atoms, Newton's first law, and the first step of the scientific method for ages 9–10; hard covers mitosis, natural selection, and the convection currents that move tectonic plates; expert reaches seafloor spreading, stellar parallax, nitrogen-fixing bacteria, and terminal velocity — a genuine stretch for 12- and 13-year-olds and for many adults, too.
